The Trump-Navalny Connection

Hey everybody, Andrew Colvin here, Executive Producer of The Charlie Kirk Show filling in for Charlie. Today we're talking about Alexei Navalny and Trump had the audacity to invoke his name during a town hall last night and the left wing media is going berserk. But is it an apt comparison?

We're going to explore that idea. What is he facing? How is the judicial system in America mirroring that of Putin's Russia? Why are leftists heads exploding? We bring in Mike Davis from the Article Three Project to discuss it, to discuss his legal peril and what we can do to fix it moving forward. You're not going to want to miss it. Stay tuned.

Buckle up. Here we go. We will not embrace the ideas that have destroyed countries, destroyed lives and we are going to fight for freedom on campuses across the country.

That's why we are here. I want to talk about Trump's town hall last night. So for those of you who missed it, Trump did a sit down with Laura Ingraham in front of a live audience, answered a lot of tough questions.

There was a lot of buzz last night about who the vice presidential candidate could be. Lots of stories emerged from this. But what's always interesting if you are an observer of the legacy dying fake news media is to see what they key in on. What do they notice when Trump speaks?

What do they make light of? So for example, one recent story is that Trump is a betrayer of NATO and he's going to ask Russia and Putin to destroy our NATO allies if they don't pay up. That is complete hogwash.

We know it's hogwash. Now there is a healthy skepticism with NATO that we all should have. As Tucker Carlson says, NATO is really good at using resources and not doing much.

Making things worse actually I think is the quote. So here we know that Trump is playing hardball with NATO, wants NATO to actually take care of their own defenses. They've allowed their own military to atrophy over the years as America has provided a security blanket and meanwhile they're able to spend lavishly domestically on a social safety net that the Democrats would love here. And yet, ironically, it's the Democrats who are pushing for war. So Trump is, he's talking the talk, I want to use another word, he is playing tough with NATO to get them to pay up.

Now, that's what the mainstream news media does and everybody gets to be outraged in the Democrat Party about how Trump is so un-American, he's betraying our allies. Another thing happened last night where Trump in this town hall referenced the name of Alexei Navalny. This is the Russian dissident, the political opposition who was jailed in the Arctic in the cold tundra of I believe Siberia.

Fact check me on that Blake. And he died. And it looks like Putin had him killed or perhaps he died of other underlying health issues from being treated poorly over the years. We don't know. There's been some reporting that there was a visit by Russian officials in the week leading up to his death and that it was timed by the minute. No idea how true any of that is.

It's certainly unfortunate. Charlie himself issued a tweet in defense of Navalny calling him a heroic figure, calling him an admirable figure. There's a lot of talk whether or not he was a US asset that was being used and manipulated by the CIA. But that aside, I think it's very clear that he had authentic, passionate beliefs. He loved Russia, wanted to see it going in a different direction and Putin put him in jail. What Trump brought up though, I think is a very important critical piece of our American story. And I want to play the clips and then we're going to react to him.

Play cup 56. But it's happening in our country, too. We are turning into a communist country in many ways. And if you look at it, I'm the leading candidate. I get indicted. I never heard of being indicted before I was. I got indicted four times. I have eight or nine trials, all because of the fact that I'm and you know this, all because of the fact that I'm in politics.

They indicted me on things that are so ridiculous of Fannie in Atlanta. So what he's doing is he's laying out the case that we're not so much different than what you know, the leading regime in America is not so much different than what's happening in Russia yet. Okay, Trump is not in prison, but they want to throw him in prison for 700 years. And maybe he wouldn't die of suspicious causes in prison or maybe he would. Jeffrey Epstein comes to mind. The mysterious death of Jeffrey Epstein. Now Jeffrey Epstein was a deplorable person and a crook and a lot of other things, a pedophile. And so, you know, but listen, when we think that we are beyond the pale, that we think we have something on Russia, let's look around and assess the facts. Trump is facing currently 700 years in federal prison and he mentioned Fannie. He's getting his assets robbed, thieved from him in New York. So there are comparisons that I think are warranted and you heard the audience react.

Let's play the second piece of this clip, 57. People around the world are expressing outrage over the death of Alexei Navalny, of course, in a horrific Russian prison. You posted on Truth Social about it. You said that his death made you more aware of the political circumstances here at home. It's happening here. Specifically your rivals.

I want to give you the chance. So that was actually part one and then that was his response, the first clip I played. But think about this. Trump would be a political prisoner, just like Alexei Navalny. Trump is actually keying in on a deep truth, which is why they are reacting in the mainstream news media so vociferously. Look at the CNN headline here. Trump makes a false comparison between him and Navalny. What a headline. I think we have that graphic.

You want to put it up? Trump likens court ordering him to pay millions in civil fraud case to Navalny's death. Anti-American crap former GOP congressman calls out Trump's Navalny comments. Fact check. Trump attack ad omits key context about Haley's death. That's unrelated.

Here's the point, though. The regime media is going all out to castigate President Trump's fake comparison between him and Navalny while he's facing 700 years in federal prison. Under a very questionable set of circumstances, we've gone into great detail in the show how he had every right to have those documents and whether or not he handled his negotiations with the FBI, that is being worked out in the courts. Nevertheless, it is precedent-breaking, norm-breaking for the current administration via their Justice Department to attack and target a former U.S. president. It never happened in the history of the Republic. And even when it did happen with Nixon, he was pardoned. These are norm-breaking moments that we are living through right now. So the outrage about Trump invoking Alexei Navalny's name in a town hall is completely astroturf.

It's absolutely, totally warranted. And yes, Navalny died. That is tragic. Do you not think that Trump has a chance of dying if he spends 700 years in federal prison?

But wait, there's more. Listen to the way that Rep. Dan Goldman reacts about House Republicans now. So Russia, Russia, Russia is now expanding to House Republicans.

43. Not only is there no evidence of any wrongdoing by President Biden, but it now appears as if the House Republican majority is being used by Russia to interfere in the 2024 election on behalf of Donald Trump. If they continue with this investigation, they are simply doing the work of Vladimir Putin to help Donald Trump win an election in November. That's where we are. That guy has crazy eyes.

I think we can all agree with that. There's something not right about that guy. The way he looks in the camera, like Russia, Russia, Russia, it's very, very disconcerting. We've got now Nancy Pelosi suggesting that Putin has something on Trump, financial or otherwise.

He's got compromise. We are not dealing with people that are acting sane or rational. They're acting panicked. And they are going back to the old playbook because of the Russia, Russia, Russia collusion hoax, because nothing they've thrown at Donald Trump has worked yet.

First of all, we must be sure that he does not step one foot into the White House, not as president or not as anything. He looks like he's going to be a person without dollars either. But the values are what concern us. Yes, the dollars. I don't know what he has on them, but I think it's probably financial.

I think it's probably financial, either something financially he has on or something on the come. All right, put the bottle down, Nancy. Just take a breather for a little while.

These people are fixated. They're going back to the old playbook. So again, keep your eye on the prize here. What hasn't worked? Not yet, at least. The Jack Smith looks like it's going to be pushed till after the election, pending the SCOTUS review. Looks like Fannie Willis is against the ropes.

They're going to appeal these sham rulings in New York. But we've got so much tape on this. I want to make sure we get to all that.

We can talk about it with Mike Davis some as well. But there is, I mean, listen, where to go? There's so many pieces of tape that are all so damning.

Look at cut 60. So when we talk about Trump, Trump in the town hall mentioned that he specifically points to this verdict, Letitia James, the get Trump attorney general of the state of New York who campaigned on getting Trump. Show me the man, I'll show you the crime. No banks were defaulted on, no loans were defaulted on, the banks testified in his defense. They probably loan him money tomorrow. If he asks, they undervalued his assets in order to establish a fraud case against Trump.

The whole thing stinks. They're literally seizing his assets. They are ripping him off in New York. And if Trump does not pay up, once you count interest, it's well over $400 million in fine and settlement, they are going to seize his buildings. They're even going to seize his buildings.

That's straight from Letitia James' cut 60. Four days after a judge ordered Donald Trump to pay $355 million for a decade of fraud, New York Attorney General Letitia James says she's prepared to do everything she can to make sure the former president pays his fine, including, she told us, seizing the buildings that bear his name. If he does not have funds to pay off the judgment, then we will seek judgment enforcement mechanisms in court and we will ask the judge to seize his assets.

We will ask the judge to seize his assets. Now they're going to be appealing this ruling. There's a lot of people, including Kevin O'Leary, we played that on the show yesterday that have been vocal critics of what is going on in New York. And by the way, can't say it enough, if you are invested in New York, if you are a businessman in New York, businesswoman, get out, especially if you are conservative.

The message is clear. If you go against the regime, you can be a target, they can find a crime, they can steal your assets, they can seize your buildings, they can close and shutter your businesses. It's terrifying what's happening in New York. And again, all they want to do is talk about Russia. And the second that he brings up Navalny, guess what?

He strikes a chord. He said, hey, what happened to Navalny is terrible, but they're trying to do similar things to me. And it's like, CNN, a false equivalency, a false comparison to Navalny. Well, why is it false? How is it false? Are you not also trying to ensure that the top political opponent to the current regime is going to die in prison? Is that false?

Or is it apt? Is it so close to the truth that you have to spin a web of propaganda to lie about it? But wait, there's more because there's always more. Democrat Congressman Ted Lieu blames Trump for the death of Navalny. It goes that far.

Play cut six. Why did Navalny all of a sudden die at this point in time? I first of all agree with President Biden that Russia is responsible for his death.

Also, what happened in a few days leading up to his death? Well, we had former President Donald Trump essentially say that Russia should attack European countries. That is crazy. That is traitorous language. Russia certainly was listening.

And I think they thought, hey, we now have a green light to do all sorts of crazy stuff. And if Trump would be president, Putin would have even more latitude. Set the record straight here, Ted Lieu. The reason that Russia felt emboldened to attack Ukraine is that there is a mumbling idiot in the White House right now that projects weakness, American weakness. Trump has said time and again that Putin would have never invaded Ukraine had he been in office. Now remember, Putin chose to take Crimea in 2014 with Obama in office. Did he do any of that when Trump was in office? Of course not. Because Trump is an x factor.

He's a wild man. Putin didn't want to test him. He feared Trump. Who can you trust? Government leaders repeatedly fail us. Self-appointed experts have led us astray. Distrust and so-called authorities is spreading like a bad cold and we can't quite shake it. But you're not as powerless as they'd like you to believe when there's no one to depend on. So we hear Biden and his Democrat friends and the Uniparty demanding we send 60 billion dollars to corrupt Ukrainian oligarchs and defense contractors to supposedly save democracy and Ukraine because Europe apparently can't put up more of their own money for their national defense because they need more social welfare programs and we have these same Democrats and Uniparty Republicans saying that Putin is destroying democracy by trying to put his political enemy to die in prison. Well that sounds awfully familiar because that's exactly what Joe Biden and these Democrat prosecutors like Jack Smith and Jay Brat and Tish James and Alvin Bragg and Fanny Willis that's exactly what they're doing to President Trump.

These Democrats impeached Trump twice for nonsense they're trying to indict him and imprison him for the rest of his life for non-crimes they've illegally unconstitutionally gagged him several times with their Democrat operative judges they're trying to bankrupt him for non-fraud with big Tish James in New York teaming up with this Democrat Manhattan operative judge Arthur Ingeron they're trying to impose a nearly 500 million dollar fine on Trump and take away his business and go after his family for the non-fraud of paying back sophisticated Wall Street banks in full on time as agreed with interest and then you have this lunatic Jean Carroll who named her cat vagina and said that rape was sexy winning a bogus civil lawsuit against President Trump where New York changed the laws they changed the rules they changed the statute of limitations just so Jean Carroll can get Trump. This is law fair this is election interference this is what America sanctions Russia and China and North Korea and foreign countries for doing to their own citizens. Well said Mike I mean this is a vicious vicious assault on not only our norms and our customs but also the rule of law and I love that point you made about Eugene Carroll specifically I don't think it gets made enough how New York actually changed the statute of limitations and then changed it back just so that she could pursue this legal assault against the president I think it's such an important point but I want to dive into this Russia thing I mean we in my opinion all eyes should be on China almost you know if we're gonna worry about a real foreign threat to the United States of America it's gonna come in soft power mostly through China. Russia is we should be working with Russia I mean I'm not saying we should be best friends with Russia but we you know we didn't win two world wars without them they are a power in Eastern Europe there's no doubt about it in the fall of the Soviet Union you know there was an expectation that we were gonna work together and yet the Democrats are so obsessed we were talking with Eric Schmidt yesterday he said he's only been in DC about 12-14 months and the first thing he noticed was this obsession with Ukraine he could not get over how obsessed DC is with Ukraine so I'm just I'm gonna play a cut here it's a 45 second cut so bear with me but this is Liz Cheney talking about the Republican wing of the the Republican wing of the or the Putin wing of the Republican Party and it just keeps I gotta wonder what is the fascination with Russia and Ukraine play cut eight. You know when you think about Donald Trump for example pledging retribution what Vladimir Putin did to Navalny is what retribution looks like in a country where the leader is not subject to the rule of law and and I think that we have to take Donald Trump very seriously we have to take seriously the extent to which you know you've now got a Putin wing of the Republican Party I believe the issue this election cycle is making sure the Putin wing of the Republican Party does not take over the West Wing of the White House. Your reaction Mike? This is insane I would I would ask these Democrats and Uniparty Republicans this how many paychecks are they willing to sacrifice to go save three Russian-speaking provinces in eastern Ukraine? How many children are they willing to sacrifice to save three Russian-speaking provinces in Ukraine? What Putin did in Ukraine is monstrous but it is the result of Joe Biden's incompetence and weakness and corruption President Obama put Vice President Biden in charge of Ukraine the Biden family cashed in in Ukraine Putin smelled the corruption the incompetence the weakness Putin took Crimea we had four years of peace and prosperity around the world including in Ukraine under President Trump Biden's back now Putin's back and Putin's trying to take the rest of Ukraine we have spent nearly a hundred billion dollars of American taxpayer because of Biden's weakness corruption and incompetence say of the Capitol in general DC and she's in there and she's part of this apparatus that is attempting to weaponize DC weaponize our justice system and she can't see in the mirror that she's doing the exact same thing that she's accusing Putin and Russia of doing meanwhile she's she's castigating a large portion of the Republican Party as the Putin wing of the Republican Party I don't know why it's so difficult for folks to get in their mind the fact that that you know you can be against Putin and against war with Russia at the same time it's very you know very hard for people to keep both of those ideas in their head but Mike let's take a step back and when you look at Trump's legal battles that are ahead of him if you had to isolate the number one threat against him right now if you were if you were as part of his legal team what do you say is the the most critical next fight that poses a real threat well the Democrats are waging their law fair on many fronts for criminal indictments several civil lawsuits including Tish James trying to bankrupt Trump for the non fraud of paying back Wall Street banks Jean Carroll extracting you know nearly a hundred million dollars for her bogus lie that she told in a Democrat judge and jury went along with this law fair what I would say the most pressing look if you look at the polling there is one case right now that could change at the outcome of the election it is Jack Smith's January 6 case in DC and that is why the Biden Justice Department Jack Smith Merrick Garland Joe Biden DC Obama Judge Tonya Shukin are rushing to try President Trump before November 5th 2024 because they know no matter what's with this ninety five percent Trump deranged jury pool this highly partisan Biden special counsel Jack Smith is highly partisan DC Obama Judge Tonya Shukin they are guaranteed to get a criminal conviction of President Trump in DC and that the one thing that could stop this is the the president has asserted presidential immunity and that needs to be resolved by the Supreme Court of the United States members of Congress have both civil and criminal immunity for their official acts federal judges have both civil and criminal immunity for their official acts right now the president has civil immunity for his official acts it has not been established that presidents have criminal immunity because no president before Biden brought these bogus indictments against Trump his political enemy has ever been charged and now President Trump faces four criminal prosecutions bogus criminal prosecutions for non crimes the Supreme Court is going to have to decide this issue of criminal immunity for presidents because this is so much bigger than Donald Trump does this mean the Trump 47 Justice Department can indict and imprison President Obama for capital murder for his drone strike on two American citizens including a minor does this mean that current first circuit judge David Barron who served as President Obama's legal advisor at that time when he when David Barron told Obama that this drone strike this extradition judicial murder was legal does that mean David Barron can also be charged as the nuclear family including the roles of mothers and fathers and things that make men and women different and unique that's what our kids will learn in Trump's Christian nationalist public schools it's pretty humorous to watch these people freak out about you know Christians trying to get involved in the public square and it's it's a whole boogeyman the Christian nationalism thing that they've propped up but but here's here's my question for you Mike and you you tend to draw a lot of of attention from these mainstream media folks when you talk about this but if you are you know if you've got a window of opportunity to affect real change in a Trump's second term what do you do about the justice system we got about four or five minutes here what do you do how do you reform this how do you defang this weaponized judicial system well I would say this first about Joy Reid what the hell is a Christian nationalist right is that a Christian who loves America and I guess the question I have is what the hell's wrong with that as opposed to what third world Marxist trash that Joe Biden is importing into our country people who hate America and hate everything we stand for and don't want to assimilate and they want to destroy our country from within and they want to take all of our treasure that we've built over the last 250 years I mean what I'm still scratching my head on what's wrong with being a Christian nationalist and I guess I didn't realize it was open season on Christians I didn't realize this this anti-christian bigotry is allowed on MSNBC and you have to wonder if their advertisers are on board with this we saw with Mehdi Hassan before he got fired that he didn't like Jews and now Joy Reid doesn't like Christians so who the hell watches MSNBC right so there's that as a now let's turn to this politicized and weaponized justice system I think the Justice Department and including the FBI and the various U.S. Attorney's offices around the country particularly in Washington D.C. need to be cleaned out we need to have a house cleaning and that includes what we have now is we have the political leadership for example of the FBI we have one presidentially appointed Senate confirmed FBI director and he's supposed to have up to a 10-year term and this FBI director is so insulated from political accountability that we create this tyranny within the FBI because they think that they're not accountable to anyone they're supposed to the FBI director is supposed to report to the deputy attorney general who reports to the attorney general who reports to the president of the United States and the FBI director doesn't think he reports to anyone we need to take at least the top three layers of the FBI at the director level the assistant director of the deputy director level needs assistant director level and put in new people in those jobs how many how many people would this mean we're gonna fire how many like are we talking tens we talking hundreds thousands we need to we need to fire thousands of people in the Justice Department make them send them to the border reassign them to the border to prosecute immigration cases and change diapers on these migrant fam and these migrant family centers and make them reapply for their jobs because they're gonna claim civil service protection so send them to the border right wow I mean you know and this is this this is the stuff that makes the the the MSNBC race lady Joy Reid freak out and and you're totally right by the way Mike I mean she expresses anti-white bigotry and
